a blog about all things good and green, living with the land, & loving with the whole heart

I am a child of the Earth. I love life. I am full of a deep gratitude to be here having this experience. All I have ever wanted was to live a simple life. To be on the land, connected with all the life there, in sync with the seasons and the harmony of nature. I live my life in service to Mother Earth and with deep respect for her many peoples; furred, feathered, scaled, two legged and otherwise. I believe that we are the universe experiencing itself, and so I want to make this existence a rich, adventurous, purposeful life. I try to live in the NOW, and see the gift in all experiences; good and bad.
In my lifetime, I seek to exist in a way which is loving to all beings. To respect people and place. As such, I am in and endless examination of my "self," finding a path to live by which is ethical, sustainable, mindful, and leaves a light footprint behind. Challenging "the norm" is something I am passionate about. I believe change is made by existing in a way which you want things to be.
I hope to leave behind a legacy which inspires people to live their life fully, and in a way that honors the unique experience of 'Being' that we are blessed with. I want to show people that loving deeply is the key to living the best life.
I've lived my entire life in the state of Maine / Eastern Wabanaki Territory. In my life so far, I've worked as a mushroom farmer, book seller, baker, jewelry craftsman, among other things. I've lived in campers, basements, apartments, tents, off-grid houses. I've taken a tattoo apprenticeship, taught paint classes, won art contests, sung open mic, run my own shop, and created murals. Every year I look forward to the Common Ground Country Fair, fishing season, the Belfast Chalk Fest, maple sugaring, the return of Spring ephemerals, wild strawberry season, and the first mushrooms to pop up in the Autumn. My favorite places to be are the Kennebunk Plains, my community garden plot, the Head of the Tide preserve, Wassumkeag, and the secret spot where I proposed. I think tomatoes, strawberries, basil kombucha, pineappleweed, and aged cheese are just the finest things. I enjoy red wine in the bathtub, bird watching, making animal calls, stationary, storytelling, music boxes, house plants, junk shops, cemetery walks, seaglass picking, and singing on road trips. I don't like mixed meats, I've never been on an airplane, and refuse to grow hostas.
My mother taught me to find my spirit in nature, and my father taught me how to do all things with my hands. My grandfather gave me the gift of a green thumb, my grandmother the ability to cook the harvest. My other grandmother instilled in me a love of the sea and song. I have four incredible brothers, I've known two of my great-grandmothers, and I have the most incredible "found family" one could ask for. The various cats, dogs, fish, and rodents in my life have all filled my heart with joy and taught me unconditional love. My soul mate and partner of over a decade, Sage, has been my lover, protector, mirror, and role model. We fell in love through our shared passion for Earth-based living and our dream to return to the land and sustain ourselves.
