This year I have had the honor of being selected as a M.O.F.G.A. Ambassador. This new program will serve as a way for M.O.F.G.A. to increase its reach and ability to help people across the state. It is a volunteer based program created with the intention that local comunities will run their own chapter, with each community tailoring the program's purpose and goals to their community needs. My mission statement for my term is written below:
“As a M.O.F.G.A. ambassador, my goal is to help create a chapter in my region so that M.O.F.G.A. can further its abilities to help the community, and to have more engagement across the state. Each ambassador has chosen a project that is close to their heart, which will benefit the community and set the foundation for the future work of the chapters. My project, set in motion in my term from April 2025 to March 2026, is to increase the Food Sovereignty of the people in Waldo county, with Belfast at the heart of the project. I believe that access to healthy food is a basic human right, and one that society has cast aside in favor of other advances. Many people are without food, and especially truly nourishing food. My goal, with the help of the community, is to find ways to increase food security- through land access, meal sharing, cooking and nutrition education, and working with local farmers.”
As the year goes on, I will share project updates on the website, as well as a plethora of resources. Part of my project is going to be developing a series of Basic Cooking Courses, designed to help anyone learn how to best use whatever food is available to them and make the most of seasonal goods. All of these courses will be translated to text and possibly video, and added to the site for anyone to access freely.
